We believe that the strongest communities are built on small acts of care. Kindling connects elderly neighbors who need a helping hand with teenagers who are ready to show up. No complicated sign-ups. No barriers. Just neighbors helping neighbors.
To eliminate everyday isolation for elderly neighbors by connecting them with guardian-approved teen volunteers in their own community.
A world where every neighborhood takes care of its own — where no elderly person feels alone, and every teenager knows the power of showing up.
The Kindling Initiative was founded in 2025 by a group of high school students who noticed something that many people overlook: their elderly neighbors were struggling with simple daily tasks. Picking up groceries, getting to a doctor's appointment, or just having someone to talk to — these everyday needs were going unmet.
What started as a handful of students helping out in one neighborhood quickly grew into something bigger. The founders realized that teenagers across the country wanted to help — they just didn't know how or where. At the same time, elderly neighbors didn't feel comfortable asking for help from strangers.
Kindling was built to solve both problems. By creating a trusted, community-based platform, we give elders an easy way to request help and give teens a meaningful way to volunteer. Every task completed earns service hours, builds real-world skills, and most importantly — strengthens the bonds between generations.
Kindling is just getting started. We are building our very first volunteer communities now — and we would love for yours to be one of them.
Trust is the foundation of everything we do. Here is how we keep our community safe for elders, teens, and families. To be clear about what this is and isn't: we verify email/phone and require guardian consent, but we do not run criminal background checks or government-ID verification.
Every volunteer confirms an email or phone number, and provides their school and date of birth, before accessing the platform.
Every teen volunteer is a high-school student aged 13–18, and a parent or guardian must approve their participation.
All interactions happen through the platform. No personal contact information is ever exchanged.
Every task has clear start and end times with real-time status updates for full transparency.
After each task, both elders and volunteers can rate the experience to maintain quality.
Every task and message is logged on the platform, giving guardians and partners a clear record of activity.
