Our Story

About The Kindling Initiative

We believe that the strongest communities are built on small acts of care. Kindling connects elderly neighbors who need a helping hand with teenagers who are ready to show up. No complicated sign-ups. No barriers. Just neighbors helping neighbors.

Our Mission

To eliminate everyday isolation for elderly neighbors by connecting them with verified teen volunteers in their own community.

Our Vision

A world where every neighborhood takes care of its own — where no elderly person feels alone, and every teenager knows the power of showing up.

Our Story

The Kindling Initiative was founded in 2025 by a group of high school students who noticed something that many people overlook: their elderly neighbors were struggling with simple daily tasks. Picking up groceries, getting to a doctor's appointment, or just having someone to talk to — these everyday needs were going unmet.

What started as a handful of students helping out in one neighborhood quickly grew into something bigger. The founders realized that teenagers across the country wanted to help — they just didn't know how or where. At the same time, elderly neighbors didn't feel comfortable asking for help from strangers.

Kindling was built to solve both problems. By creating a trusted, community-based platform, we give elders an easy way to request help and give teens a meaningful way to volunteer. Every task completed earns service hours, builds real-world skills, and most importantly — strengthens the bonds between generations.

Today, Kindling is active in 12+ communities and growing every month. What began as a neighborhood experiment is becoming a nationwide movement.

How Volunteer Screening Works

Trust is the foundation of everything we do. Here is how we keep our community safe for elders, teens, and families.

Identity Verification

Every volunteer verifies their identity through email or phone before accessing the platform.

Guardian Consent

All teen volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian approve their participation.

No Personal Info Shared

All interactions happen through the platform. No personal contact information is ever exchanged.

Real-Time Tracking

Every task has clear start and end times with real-time status updates for full transparency.

Community Ratings

After each task, both elders and volunteers can rate the experience to maintain quality.

Partner Screening

Partner organizations can enable additional background screening for their volunteer cohorts.
